Erna Harms, volunteer coordinator of "Operation Friendship," converses with Frank Machell. The program, run through Senior Adult Resource Services, sought to provide companionship to over 100 seniors. Volunteers would either visit or call their assigned partner at least once a week. At the time, the organization was seeking volunteers. Since going blind, Machell, a longtime resident of the community, had a volunteer visit him regularly. |
