  5. P26968 - Cheque presentation by the Housing and Urban Development Association of Canada (HUDAC) Abbotsford Branch to three local organizations. Left to right: Bill Turner of MSA Community Services, receiving a $900 cheque, Aron Froese, past President of HUDAC, Stan Worthington of the MSA General Hospital receiving a $1,200 cheque, Henry Braun, HUDAC Public Relations Director and Judy Dallman Assistant Sub-Contracting Supervisor at Wildwood Training Centre, receiving a $900 cheque. The cheques represent HUDAC’s desire to promote worthwhile community activities. The $3,000 worth of donations is from the sale of the HUDAC display home, completed in January and sold in February. The home was constructed at 2469 Sunnyside in Clearbrook in order to demonstrate the quality of homes built by the members and also showcase some of the newer design techniques and products. The home is contemporary, constructed on five levels and covers over 3,000 square feet. It is also built on a hillside property, illustrating ways how to use that type of land constructively. Over 500 visitors toured the home during two Open House weekends and Mary Langille of Ace Agencies completed the sale of the home to Mr and Mrs Jim Scantland. HUDAC members Hank Appeldoorn, Jake Janzen and Bob Matty supervised the construction of the display home. The Abbotsford branch of the HUDAC organization has 40 members, belonging to a national 6,000 strong member total, who have built 85% of the homes in the country. The purpose of HUDAC is to strive to improve all aspects of the residential construction industry. They are able to do this by representing its members’ interests in a variety of fields including legislative, educational, research, industry promotion and consumer relations. Individuals are eligible for HUDAC membership if they are actively engaged in the residential construction industry as a builder, land developer or sub-contractor, apartment owner or manager, manufacturer, utility representative, mortgage lender, realtor or professional.
