The judges included Mike Dodman, disc jockey for the CJJC Radio Station, Christine Moore, fashion merchandising instructor at Patricia Stevens Career College in Vancouver, and a sports celebrity as a representative from Labatt Breweries. Prior to the event, each contestant attends a five evening course that covers poise, grooming, public relations, public speaking, modelling, and wardrobe coordination. Beyond the actual pageant on May 14, each contestant was expected to participate in the International Band Festival parade on May 7, as well as the Jaycee-sponsored annual tea and dinner on the day of the pageant at the Park Hotel.
