  4. P24610 - May Queens are seated on the stage during May Day celebrations, held in Bradner. The weather is too wet and cold, so many of the ball games are postponed a week to occur on the following Friday. The planning chairman for the event is Chris Engh and the May Queen is 12 year old Shelly McIntosh, a student at Bradner Elementary. Students from Bradner, Aberdeen and Dunach Elementary schools are taking part in the traditional May Pole dances. There are 15 floats entered in the parade, in categories including Parent-Teacher Association, general, commercial, community and the children’s bicycle parade. Special guests include Matsqui Mayor Harry DeJong, the District Superintendent of Schools, F T Middleton, Miss Abbotsford of 1977 and Miss Abbotsford Flying Club, Carina Olsson, first runner up Miss Hacker Press, Denise Saxbee, and runner up Miss Abbotsford Lions, Kimberly "Kim" Friesen. The Abbotsford Legion Pipe Band also will be performing several pieces. Medallions will also presented to the May Queen and the other queens by Mrs H Friesen. The winners of the School Poster Contest are: Jubilee School student Justin Glibbery, Aberdeen student Billy Bayda, Dunach student Sylvia Thielman, Mt Lehman student Theresa Wolfe and Bradner Elementary student Sharon Collins.

Service awards recipients: Linda Brown, Jay Fredericks, Debbie Anderson, Bill Overend, Pat Whitely, Randy Stewart, Linda Lambert, Val Wick, Carolyn VanRyk, Linda Gibb, Ron Morwick, Ann Britton, Lea Dobie, Lynne Smith and Jill Kirkoff. Grade 11 Program Cups recipients include: Janice Parberry for Visual and Performing Arts, Susan McKinney for Community Services, Mary Jane Braun for Commerce, Randy Matthews for Industrial Arts, Trudy Froese for Arts, and Edith Hoon for Science. Laura Carza also made a presentation for school. Additional Grade 11 award recipients are: Kim Friesen, Steve Nicol, Kelly Johnson, Len Penner, Jim Toy, Susan McKinney, Don Garvey, Allana Wiebe and Karen Aitken.
