Doll "demonstrates" rental car seat for babies to prospective clients. In 1984, car crashes ook the lives of more than 70 youngsters under the age of five each year in Canada. And more than 4,000 children were injured. In effort to decrease these figures and encourage more families to use car seats for babies, two Abbotsford-area sisters had started a baby car seat rental agency called "Buckle Up Baby." Charmain Caldwell and Christine Robinson started in April 1983 with only 20 seats, and had expanded to include 175 seats. To promote the rental idea, Caldwell and Robinson displayed posters in maternity wards, prenatal classes, and doctors' offices, throughout the Lower Mainland. Caldwell and Robinson chose the seat rental business because they wanted to be active in the community, but also to be home with their children. Image not published. |
