The senior members of the Valley String Symphony pose with their trophy after winning the 1966 orchestra open competition at the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival. Seated, left to right: Mrs Frank Dyck, Jean Guenther, Beverly Penner and Gilda Kuhar. Standing, left to right: (first name obscured) Dyck, Hedy Sawatzky, Bob Martens, Jacob Toews, Walter Neufeld, conductor, Victor Neufeld, John Klassen, (first name obscured) Klassen and Julia Born. They received the highest mark of all of the groups competing on the official opening night with its performance of Corelli’s Concerto. This work, along with other orchestra selections, was performed at the annual Spring Concert on Saturday, June 18th at 8pm in the Philip Sheffield auditorium. |
