The Abbotsford Rugby Club play their first home game in three months against Pitt Meadows, Saturday, March 10, 1979. Under clear blue skies, the first division side came from behind to defeat Pitt River 22-13. In the first division game, Abbotsford held a one-point edge at half-time, 8-7. George Sweeney put ARFC on the scoreboard when he followed up on a kick by Brother Ron and recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a try. Abby’s second try came from Rob Fuller on a short side play after he took a quick pass from Ken Parker to dive in for four more points. In the second half, with the locals behind and pressing, it was George Sweeney again alertly diving on a loose ball from a five-metre scrum to count another try. ARFC went ahead 14-13. The try got the locals rolling and they came right back scoring two more tries by Mike Dushinski and Randy Howarth. Image not published. |
