Classrooms in the new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) church are purposely small - limiting study groups to six or eight people is beneficial to better learning and communication. The latest addition to Abbotsford's impressive array of church buildings was the new LDS. The $1.4 million was located on McMillan Road. The church featured a particularly warm atmosphere with an 'expendable' chapel that opened up to rooms for everything from basketball games to receptions to concerts. Bishop Richard said plans for the church, plus 96 percent of construction, came directly from Latter Day Saints headquarters in Salt Lake city, Utah. The main gathering place was surrounded by small classrooms designed for more personal groups of six-eight students. The Abbotsford ward, which drew its members from Abbotsford, Mission and Aldergrove, numbered 450 individuals in 1984. The space was equipped for a growing congregation. It was capable of accommodating four wards. Image not published. |
