Passport photo of Thakur Singh Banga. Thakur was born in 1877. He was a big man and had a varied career: he worked in the Rangoon and Singapore police forces before coming to Canada in 1907. Upon arriving here he worked at the Abbotsford Lumber Company, sticking together with his own people. As a result he only spoke broken English. He assisted with the construction of the original Temple. Thakur returned to India in 1938 with other members of his family and stayed to farm there. He did not return until many years later. Thakur passed away in 1970. |
