The newly crowned 1977 Miss Abbotsford, Carina Olsson. Carina Olssen, also Miss Abbotsford Flying Club, is a Grade 12 student at Abbotsford Senior Secondary and the daughter of Mr and Mrs Rolf Olsson. She is 18 years old and plans to become a dental technician. She enjoys travelling, skiing and tennis. The pageant, held at ASSS, is sponsored by the Abbotsford Jaycees. The organizers of the pageant are Keith Fuller and Al Anderson, with Queen Mother Carol Lewis and Linda Cherry assisting. The judges include Mike Dodman, disc jockey for the CJJC Radio Station, Christine Moore, a fashion merchandising instructor at Patricia Stevens Career College in Vancouver, and an unidentified sports celebrity as a representative from Labatt Breweries. Prior to the event, each contestant attends a five evening course that covers poise, grooming, public relations, public speaking, modelling, and wardrobe coordination. Beyond the actual pageant on May 14, each contestant is expected to participate in the International Band Festival Parade on May 7, as well as the Jaycee-sponsored annual tea and dinner on the day of the pageant at the Park Hotel. |
