Local aggregate winners of the Junior Olympic Training Program (JOTP), organized by the Royal Canadian Legion, receiving their trophies by Legion Provincial Command director, Lionel Pugh. Kirk Bryde tied with Rex Frost with seven points for first place in the Juvenile Division, while Jack Rempel topped the Midget Boys division with nine points. They helped the Fraser Valley zone win top spot with 122 points in the JOTP inter zone meet, held at the Abbotsford Senior Secondary School track. Other local athletes included Maxine Harris with eight points in the Midget Girls division, who tied with Nancy Thorne of Vancouver. The meet opened with a march of all of the athletes and closed with a dinner at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall. The Abbotsford Branch, Branch 15, of the Royal Canadian Legion, was the host of the event. |
