Penner is a 17 year old Grade 12 student at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School and plans to take college courses in Child Development. Her hobbies include synchronized swimming and dancing, while working part-time. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Penner. The pageant, held at ASSS, is sponsored by the Abbotsford Jaycees. The organizers of the pageant are Keith Fuller and Al Anderson, with Queen Mother, Carol Lewis, and Linda Cherry assisting. The judges include Mike Dodman, disc jockey for the CJJC Radio Station, Christine Moore, a fashion merchandising instructor at Patricia Stevens Career College in Vancouver, and an unidentified sports celebrity as a representative from Labatt Breweries. Prior to the event, each contestant attends a five evening course that covers poise, grooming, public relations, public speaking, modelling, and wardrobe coordination. Beyond the actual pageant on May 14, each contestant is expected to participate in the International Band Festival Parade on May 7, as well as the Jaycee-sponsored annual tea and dinner on the day of the pageant at the Park Hotel. |
