"Vienna Choir draws large audience." Content: "More than 1,000 people packed Abbotsford Junior High School auditorium Monday evening for a musical treat of the highest order, Famed Vienna Boys Choir, under the direction of Roman Zeilinger, presented a program of chorus and solo numbers plus a one-act operetta. Enthusiasm of the audience mounted with each successive number, and the youthful singers were given an ovation at the program's conclusion. they favored with three encores before a hushed assembly stood for their fresh-voiced "God Save the Queen." Program included numbers from Handle, Haydn, Schumann, Reger, Schubert and Johann Strauss. Operetta was 'The Imaginary Invalid," adapted by Ilka Peter from a Moliere comedy. Acting powers of the young artists were so convincing that even the language barrier was not a serious one for those unfamiliar with German. Concert was sponsored by West Abbotsford Mennonite Church men's fellowship group." |
