Carina Olsson, Miss Abbotsford Flying Club, just before she was crowned 1977 Miss Abbotsford. The other Miss Abbotsford contestants were: Miss Hacker Press, Denise Saxbee, Miss Abbotsford Lions, Kimberley Friesen, Lisa Battistoni, Miss Boston Pizza, Ann Britton, Miss Hall Pontiac-Buick, Jayne Gibson, Miss Central Fraser Valley Region (CFVR) Radio, Jill Kirkoff, Miss Fraser Valley Inn, Christine Penner, Miss Park Hotel and Miss Congeniality for the pageant, Pamela Morse, Miss Abbotsford Kinsmen, Lorette Thiessen, Miss Wall & Redekop Realty, Gertrude Vos, Miss Abbotsford Rotary. The pageant is held at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School (ASSS). The judges for the event includes Christine Moore, as a fashion merchandizing instructor at Patricia Stevens Career College in Vancouver, Mike Dodman, a disc jockey for the CJJC Radio Station, and a sports celebrity as a representative from Labatt Breweries. The organizers of the pageant are Keith Fuller and Al Anderson, with Queen Mother, Carol Lewis, and Linda Cherry assisting. Prior to the event, each contestant attends a five evening course that covers poise, grooming, public relations, public speaking, modelling, and wardrobe coordination. Beyond the actual pageant, each contestant is expected to participate in the International Band Festival parade on May 7, as well as attend the Jaycee-sponsored annual tea and dinner on the day of the pageant at the Park Hotel.
