Description |
Mrs Margaret Cooper laying a corner brick in the foundation of Clayburn Church, currently being rebuilt using funds from several grants and original brick from the original church. The initial plan was to reuse the bricks from the original building, but due to most of the bricks either broken or crumbling, only the bricks from an old sidewalk will be used in the new building. Mrs Cooper laid the first brick for the original church in 1912 after her father, uncle, husband and others in Clayburn had drummed up donations and labour for the project. Her uncle, Rev J L Miller, was the Church’s first minister and her father was superintendent and manager of the Clayburn Company. Mrs. Cooper was married in the church in 1912.The Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford had Clayburn worshipers attended there while the initial construction was being completed. Her father held a Bible class in the community during the construction. |
