Description |
Uniformed soldier on street in Matsqui Village. Immediately prior to and during the 1948 flood military personnel were brought in to assist. Army units worked with civilian volunteers to lay thousands of sandbags to hold the Ridgedale dyke. Navy personnel in a fleet of thirty vehicles went up the swollen Fraser and into inundated areas to assist with evacuation. Military personnel coordinated the use of facilities, supplied rescue equipment and manpower and established communication to coordinate response efforts. |
