Running for the ball, Abbotsford Buckeroos’ Ray Masse (number 8), Bradner Reds’ Gary Thomas (hidden) and Danny Breslin converge during their Sunday Division one Fraser Valley Soccer League game. Good goaltending on both ends characterized the game played Sunday, September 23, 1979, as the Bradner Red shirts played the Abbotsford Buckeroos to a 1-0 win at Mouat Secondary School. The two division one Fraser Valley Soccer League teams were rusty but eager in their second games so far in the 1979/80 season. The Buckeroos had one tie and one loss. Bradner had one win (Sunday) and a loss. Buckeroos coach Jim Alp said he was satisfied with his team’s performance, but he wished his players would have capitalized on a few of the excellent chances they set up for themselves. Bradner coach Brian Leeson, on the other hand, was looking for something better. "I think our play was sloppy," he said after the game. Brian Macklin scored the only goal for the Reds. He and Colin McTaggart teamed up for good pass play in the first half. There was a disagreement over whether the goal was offside. In fact, the referee’s calls made him very unpopular throughout the game. |
