Unidentified police officers escort defendant Walter Murray Madsen of Chilliwack from the Vancouver Courthouse to a police vehicle on the first day of his trial. Madsen was accused of four counts of first degree murder in the shooting deaths of Evert Den Hertog (19), Christian Jan Den Hertog (16) and Leola Guliker (16) from Rosedale as well as Egbert Menger (19) from Clearbrook. The shootings took place on July 18, 1977 as the youths were relaxing in Ferry Island Park in Rosedale, near Agassiz. Adrian "Eddie" Menger, who was the one to have survived, recounted the grisly details of the incident to the courtroom. |
