By the time of this photo, the 11 contestants were at the height of preparations for both the tea, which was held in the afternoon, and the evening pageant. Contestant co-ordinator Carol Lewis worked each week with the girls, giving tips on such things as make-up, clothing, and walking. This time with Carol was useful for the girls to become relaxed in one another’s company and to enjoy the anticipation of the pageant. The 11 contestants were all in Grade 12 at either Abbotsford Senior Secondary School or W.J. Mouat Secondary School. Rita Forcier (Miss Abbotsford Kinsmen) was 17 years-old and worked part time at Woodward’s. She was the daughter of Rene and Mary Forcier. Robyn Nicol (Miss Hall Pontiac Buick) was 17 years old and worked a part-time job at Wendy’s. She was the daughter of Charles and Gladys Nicol. Eighteen year-old Julie De Pape (Miss Hacker Press) held a part-time job at the Rancho. Her parents are John and Jean De Pape. Carol Rempel, 17, (Miss Saxbee Insurance Agencies) worked part-time at Twisters Gymnastic. She was the daughter of Jake and Jean Rempel. Seventeen year-old Kathryn Neumann (Miss Rosebay Florist), daughter of John and Dora Neumann. Cindy Davis (Miss CFVR Radio), 17, kept busy with school and a part-time job at the Old World Deli. She was the daughter Margaret and Jack Davis. Angie Driedger (Miss Wall and Redekop Realty Ltd.), 17, daughter of Norm and Marie Driedger. Eighteen year-old Pamela Davies (Miss Boston Pizza). She worked part-time at Eaton’s Pepper Tree, and was the daughter of J.O. and Marlene Trethewey. Wendy Nielson (Miss Abbotsford Lions), 17, worked part time at Versailles Restaurant, and was the daughter of Roy and Dorothy Nielson. Carolyn Hoffman (Miss Abbotsford Rotary), 17, worked a part-time job at Herby’s. She was the Daughter of Joan and Robert Hoffman. And last, but not last, Carol Sim (Miss Abbotsford Flying Club), 17, worked part-time at Woodward’s, and was the daughter of Keith and Leila Sim.
