  10. P26297 - CPR tracks in downtown Abbotsford, with Abbotsford CPR station in the background and Alderman Michael Collins, MSA Heritage Society member Chris Straiton and Phil Craven in the foreground. Abbotsford Council is sponsoring a Downtown Design competition and is requesting that artists submit a design of how the vital core area could look. Deadline for entries is December 2. The railway museum concept started during numerous meetings with Canadian Pacific Railway , Canadian National Railway and BC Hydro representatives. The organized group of citizens behind the railway museum concept, including Alderman Michael Collins, have convinced the Abbotsford Council to offer prizes of $50 and $25 to students in the area to artistically sketch their ideas for the site along West Railway Avenue, placing locomotives and train cars among the current buildings as well as adding any new buildings they believe should be constructed. Ken Davies, Carson Noftle and Phillip Craven will serve as adjudicators for the contest. The project would have added benefits of revitalizing the town core, student employment, the possibility of federal, manpower and provincial funding, and increasing the tourism to the area from seasonal attractions to occurring year round. The museum would include static and mobile aspects, with the static including several old steam engines and train cars along with other memorabilia. There are ideas of tours similar to that of the Royal Hudson excursion, travelling both east and west of the Fraser valley in an old Inter-Urban train car. The tours could start with a breakfast locally and then finish up with an evening in the proposed new arts centre.
